This tradition was most notable for its emphasis on the Mahayana mind-training instructions for generating bodhicitta, the heart of awakening, and eventually these vast and deep teachings were assimilated into the Sakya tradition and all the main lineages of Tibetan Buddhism. Of its sacred Vajrayana practices, the most profound for fostering the generation of wisdom and compassion is said to be the rare cycle of initiations known as the Sixteen Bindus, a set of practices centred around Avalokiteshvara, the Buddha of Compassion. This transmission was given by the great Taktsang Lotsawa to the first Dorje Denpa; nearly six hundred years on, H.H. the Sakya Trizin conferred it upon His Eminence Gongkar Dorje Denpa Rinpoche and now Rinpoche is bestowing this transmission for the first time in Britain. This empowerment is a unique opportunity to receiveinitiation into a broad range of Buddhist practices that support spiritual awakening. (Includes the initiations of Shakyamuni Buddha, Maitreya, Manjushri, Tara and many others.)Sunday 30th Sept - Chard - Somerset17.00-18.00 Initiation of Mahamayuri (as in Brighton)Monday 1st October - Chard - Somerset19.00 The Legacy of NalandaNalanda was an ancient Buddhist university in India that produced many of the greatest luminaries of Buddhist philosophy and practice. Although only remnants of the building remain in the modern-day state of Bihar, its influence on the development of Buddhism in Tibet was unparalleled, and H.H. the Dalai Lama himself has emphasised that the key to a comprehensive understanding of the Dharma lies in learning and understanding the system of teachings that emerged from Nalanda. So what are these special teachings? How are we to learn and practice them in the modern world? Drawing on years of study and practice of the Nalanda heritage, His Eminence Gongkar Dorje Denpa Rinpoche will explain its unique features and how it can aid our spiritual development in the twenty-first century. This practice is contained in the fourteen-deity mandala of Mahavidya, the Mother of the Planets, which ultimately leads to the attainment of enlightenment.
